The theatre opened on December 7, 1925 with Easy Come, Easy Go. It called the Biltmore Theatre and seats 622. The theatre was used by the Federal Theatre Living Newspaper in the 1930's. CBS leased it for radio and television from 1952-1961. In 1968 Hair opened here. There was fire in the theatre in 1987 destroying the interior, later it was determined it was arson. 1993 the Nederlander organization acquired the building. The Manhattan Theatre Club assumed ownership in 2001. It was renamed Samuel J. Friedman on September 4, 2008. Recent productions are Saint Joan; The Nap (2018), The Little Foxes; Prince of Broadway; The Children (2017), Our Mother's Brief Affair; The Father; Heisenberg; Jitney (2016), Constellations; Airline Highway;Fool for Love (2015) Outside Mullingar; Casa Valentine;The Country Wife (2014) The Other Place;The Assembled Parties;The Snow Geese (2013) Wit, The Columnist, An Enemy of the People (2012) and Good People;Master Class;Venus in Fur (2011).

Thomas Jay Ryan
i asked him what he liked about the role.Thomas said he ha never done flat comedy before. I always do a lot of heaver roles. It's fun to get the shot at comedy.


Bhavesh Patel
I asked him if he had a favorite role he has played. Bhavesh said Roland Maule in Present Laughter. It was a different type of comedy and different character. Bhavesh said he is from Chicago and has lived in New York City for fifteen years.


Alexandra Billings
i asked her how she likes the playing a transgender person. Alexandra said it makes me happy, I love it.


Johanna Day
Johanna said if acting didn't work out she would have been a doctor.


Max Gordon Moore
I asked him if there was a role he would like to play. Max said Cyrano de Bergerac. I have a big noise and they would have use less makeup.
